More “Faults” Found In Sikorsky S-92 Helicopters
The saga continues for the S-92 following the horrible accident of a Cougar owned aircraft that killed 17 of the 18 on board back in March. The suspected reason for the crash was a loss of oil pressure to the main gearbox possibly due to an error in the maintenance manual. I already reported on the required change to the manual here. Recent inspections of S-92s operating in the North Sea have revealed three more that have what are being called “faults.” One especially concerning find involves hairline cracks in a newly-fitted gearbox after only a few hours of flying. I bet those flying S-92s right now must be nervous…
Factual NTSB report of the Cougar flight 91 accident can be found here.
