Prime Minister Of Uganda Injured In AW119 Crash

Uganda Police AW119 accident site - source: monitor.co.ug

Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi and six other people were injured when a Ugandan police AW119 helicopter hit a tree and crashed. The accident, which happened just before 3 p.m., actually occurred right by the Bugiri hospital but due to its small size the victims were airlifted by a military helicopter to a larger facility. The police acquired the AW119 in 2008 and this is the second incident. The first was supposedly a hard or crash landing. Check out this great quote from the article regarding what happened: “an earlier incident last April in Arua which eye-witnesses described as a crash-landing but which the Police described as a scheduled refuelling stop.” Priceless.

I spent four years refurbishing and overhauling the Bell fleet in Uganda for the UPDAF and they ended up crashing everything including AF 306 the 412. It was a most disheartening experience
