Chinook Pilot Shot Between The Eyes Keeps Flying
This is quite an amazing story. A British Chinook pilot was flying in to pick up casualties during a firefight in Afghanistan when he came under fire himself. A bullet hit the mount for his NVGs, went through his helmet and hit him between the eyes, causing severe bleeding. The rounds continued to hit the aircraft damaging the controls. He managed to keep it airborne despite blood pouring in to his eyes. He flew for eight minutes until he could land at Camp Bastion, all while the helicopter lurched from side to side. Well done Flight Lieutenant Ian Fortune.
