Haitian Aid Helicopter Crashes

A Robinson R44 with two people on board crashed around 7 pm local time in the Dominican Republic Thursday. Both were killed in what is being reported as an aid flight related to the well known earthquake in Haiti. The helicopter was traveling from Port-au-Prince to Santiago at the time.

Articles are saying there wasn’t any communication to ATC prior to the crash and the nationalities of those involved haven’t been released yet. Because of the increased media attention in general, I’m sure we’ll find out more details soon and I’ll update when I can accordingly.

Update: The two on board were Americans and in fact were involved in a crash that vtolblog covered previously. When I read that they had crashed at Babcock ranch before it sounded familiar and sure enough, here is that post: link
