Santa Barbara County Fire Department Hoist Training
Santa Barbara County’s Fire Department did a mock rescue drill yesterday on the coast near Highway 101. The scenario involved an individual that fell 150 feet down a cliff to the ocean below. Officials on scene determined the best route to take would be to do a helicopter rescue rather than setup a complex rope system to extract the fake patient. That’s when N205FD was called in which is a Bell UH-1H Huey. The entire hoist operation took only 15 minutes, far faster than setting up a land based rope rescue. Once in the helicopter, the patient was flown directly to the hospital as fire fighters practiced medical procedures during the flight.
This is one of two Hueys the department has which are used for HEMS, rescue and fire fighting operations. The other I believe is N205KS.

We appreciate these heroes in California.
Noble work indeed.
